Rosiak Advances to States

Brian Rosiak from the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club will move on to the top level of competition in Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling.  TYWC took nine wrestlers to Williamsport on Sunday for the PJW Area Ten Championships, with Rosiak coming out the only representative to qualify for the PJW State Championships to be held on March 26 and 27 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.  To get there, Rosiak dominated his semi-final round opponent before falling short in the finals match of the tournament.  His second place finish qualifies him for the trip to the state competition as only the top two finishers in this tournament qualify.  Rosiak will meet up against about 20 other top wrestlers his age and weight in the state.

As mentioned, eight other TYWC wrestlers competed in the Area Ten Championship Tournament as well.  Tommy Traver came up just short of qualifying for states, finishing in third place with a 3 and 1 record on the day.  David Gavek had the next best day, finishing fourth.  Other grapplers doing their best on  the day as they faced their toughest competition of the year were Dalton Ray, Connor Munley, Lucas Stage, Owen Woods, Elliot Hammersley, and Justin Kozlansky.  Congratulations to all these youth wrestlers on some gutsy performances.

In other youth wrestling over the weekend, several future stars took place in the Abington Rookie Tournament, held for wrestlers in their first or second year.  TYWC had five first place finishers on the day including Nathan Wilmarth, Nick Wilmarth, Brian Christ, Eddie Melan, and Breanna Weidner.  Coming in second were Timmy Davenport, Jacob Davenport, and Jacob MacMillan.  The youth grapplers also brought home two third place finishers in Gavin D’Amato and Kurtis Christ.  Fourth place finishers included Ethan Munley and Ziggy Rezykowski.  Rounding out the competitors for the day and wrestling tough were Leo Mayeski  and Hunter Gregory.  A special thank-you goes out to Coach Gary Thatcher and all the TYWC family members who helped out with coaching and organizing on the day as all the other coaches attended the PJW Tournament on the same day.

Finally, four TYWC grapplers took to the mats on Saturday at Elk Lake High School for a round robin tournament.  Dakota Quick brought home the only first place finish, pinning two opponents on his way.  Hunter Gregory took third place, while Timmy Davenport brought home a fourth place finish.  Breanna Weidner also attended, but was unable to find anyone brave enough to wrestle this tough rookie.
