TYWC Hosts Annual Tourney
The Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club held its annual Tony Stanton Memorial Tournament on Sunday
with great success. The tournament hosted over 300 wrestlers from around the region and presented some
great wrestling action for the day. Carl and Jill Stanton, parents of the late Tony Stanton proudly watched
over nearly 900 matches of youth wrestling on the day. Participating
in the tournament were 41 wrestlers from the TYWC, a terrific turnout for the home-town youth grapplers. Out
of those 41, TYWC boasted 8 first place finishers, 8 second place finishers, 9 third place finishers, and 6 fourth placer
finishers. Taking home championship trophies were Owen Woods, Schuler Hammersley, who pinned 3 opponents
on his way, Kurtis Christ, Brian Rosiak, Nick Wilmarth, with his first career champion’s trophy, Tommy Traver, Jake
Richards, and Elliot Hammersley. Finishing second in the competition was Timmy Davenport, Nathan Wilmarth,
Brian Christ, David Gavek, Lucas Stage, Ted Nafus, Joey Gavek, and Dalton Ray, who picked up 3 pins on his way.
Bringing home third place finishes was Jacob Davenport, Jacob MacMillan, Gavin D’Amato, Ryan DeRemer, Connor
Munley, Bryce Brown, Tommy Bachman, Jacob Hand, and Dakota Quick. The fourth place finishers on the day
included Hunter Gregory, Ethan Munley, Erik Works, Eddie Melan, Tyler Pugh, and Will Dudock. Rounding out
the TYWC competitors and wrestling tough all day were BJ Works, Josh Whitmire, Matt Christofferson, Erin Maloney, Sam Rice,
Breanna Weidner, Josh Beeman, Justin Kozlansky, Leo Mayeski, and Ziggy Rezykowski.
Overall, this was a great day for the TYWC and a very successful tournament made possible by the help of all the family
members in the wrestling community who pitched in. A very special thank-you goes out to all of them.
In other wrestling action over the weekend, two TYWC grapplers
traveled to Muncy for the Novice Tournament of Champions. Owen Woods took home first place, pinning two
opponents on his way to victory. Ethan Munley brought home second place, also pinning two wrestlers in
the process.
