TYWC Wins Two
The Tunkhanncok Youth Wrestling Club finished up its regular season Penn League competition in a winning way, picking
up two victories against the Benton and Berwick youth clubs on Sunday at the Tunkhanncok Area Middle School
The youth wrestlers first took down Benton, 57-27. Picking up pins for the Tigers was Owen Woods,
David Gavek, Tommy Bachman, Jake Richards, Elliot Hammersley, Dakota Quick, and Joey Gavek. Nathan Wilmarth
wrestled tough to come away with a close 5-4 victory. Other winners in this match included Brian Rosiak,
Dalton Ray, and Bryce Brown. The rest of the supporting cast in the victory included BJ Works, Tommy Traver,
Nick Wilmarth, Connor Munley, Jacob Hand, and Tyler Pugh.
In
the second round of varsity action, the youth Tigers won in convincing fashion, beating Berwick 75-22. TYWC
garnered nine pins along the way from Woods, David Gavek, Rosiak, Bachman, Traver, Munley, Richards, Hammersley, and Pugh.
Jacob Hand won a thriller, outlasting his opponent 3-2 in triple overtime. Quick, Ray, and Brown
also won in the match. Also contributing toward the victory was Hunter Gregory, Works, Nick Wilmarth, and
Joey Gavek. Timmy Davenport, first year wrestler, got his first varsity mat action and wrestled tough.
TYWC future varsity got some good experience on the day as well.
Fourteen of these future stars picked up pins on this busy day of wrestling action. Nathan Tinna,
Leo Mayeski, and Jacob MacMillan all got their first career pins. Others with pins included Timmy Davenport,
Ethan Munley, Erik Works, Josh Whitmire, Kurtis Christ, Josh Beeman, Matthew Christofferson, Lucas Stage (2 pins), Justin
Kozlansky, Sam Rice (2 pins), and Brianna Weidner (2 pins).
In
other weekend youth wrestling action, TYWC took five wrestlers to participate in a round robin tournament in Jersey Shore,
PA. This competitive tournament included 400 wrestlers from areas of central and eastern Pennsylvania.
Brian Rosiak, Tommy Traver, and Elliot Hammersley all skated to first place finishes. Hammersley
picked up five pins on his way to the gold. Connor Munley finished second on the day and Dalton Ray picked
up a third place finish.
TYWC finished the regular season
Penn League competition with an impressive 9-2 record. Upcoming action for the youth grapplers includes
the Penn League Championship Tournament on February 7 at Crestwood High School and the Tony Stanton Memorial Tournament on
February 14 at Tunkhannock Area High School.
