TYWC Splits With
WVW and YMCA The grapplers from the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling
Club continued their fine season on Sunday, beating Wyoming Valley West’s club and falling to a tough YMCA team.
Their record stands at 6-1 on the season. Against WVW, seven wrestlers picked up pins on the way to a 51-41
victory. Owen Woods, Nathan Wilmarth, Tommy Traver, Nick Wilmarth, Connor Munley, Elliot Hammersley, and
Dalton Ray put their opponents’ shoulders to the mat. Other winners in the match included Brian Rosiak,
with a hard-fought 1-0 win, Tommy Bachman, and Jacob Hand, with an exciting overtime victory. Rounding
out the lineup and wrestling tough was Hunter Gregory, David Gavek, who lost a close 2-1 match, Erik Works, Jake Richards,
Joey Gavek, Dakota Quick, Tyler Pugh, and Bryce Brown. In the second match-up on the day, the young Tigers
lost a tough battle to YMCA, 51-26. Garnering pins for the Tigers was Ray and Brown. David
Gavek, Traver, Hammersley, and Quick also picked up victories in the match. All other team members wrestled
tough, including Gregory, Woods, Nathan Wilmarth, BJ Works, Rosiak, Bachman, Nick Wilmarth, Munley, Richards, Hand, Joey Gavek,
and Pugh.
The future varsity wrestlers took to the mats as well on Sunday and continued gaining valuable experience.
Picking up pins for the future varsity team was BJ Works, Ethan Munley, Ted Nafus, Lucas Stage, Justin Kozlansky, and
Will Dudock, with 2 pins on the day. Other grapplers getting mat-time included Timmy Davenport, Gavin D’Amato,
Erik Works, Brian Christ, Ryan Tanner, Josh Whitmire, Ziggy Rezykowski, Jacob Davenport, Kurtis Christ, Stanley Slocum, Josh
Beeman, Cathleen Bush, Ryan DeReemer, Erin Maloney, Sam Rice, Brianna Weidner, Nathan Shirtz, and Kinsey Pitcavage. In
tournament action over the weekend, several TYWC grapples attended the Joe Stanco Memorial at Abington Heights High School
on Saturday. Tunkhannock had a strong showing as three Tigers were crowned champions on the day. Bryce
Brown, Dalton Ray, and Elliot Hammersley all fought their way to first place finishes. Hammersley did not
give up a point through three matches on the day. Three wrestlers placed second, including Tommy Traver,
Connor Munley, and Tyler Pugh. The young Tigers had five third place finishers on the day in David Gavek,
Lucas Stage, Brianna Weidner, Jake Richards, and Dakota Quick. First year wrestler Timmy Davenport fought
hard on his way to a fourth place finish. Also attending the tournament and giving it their all was Owen
Woods, Jacob Davenport, Brian Christ, Ziggy Rezykowski, Ryan DeReemer, Ted Nafus, Chris Franko, Jacob Hand, Justin Kozlansky,
and Joey Gavek.
Finally, two first year TYWC grapplers attended a Rookie tournament in Nazareth, PA on Saturday. Eddie
Melan came home with three wins and two losses on the day to garner a third place finish. Meanwhile, Ethan
Munley worked hard all day to bring home a fifth place finish. The TYWC coaches would like to congratulate all
the youth wrestlers on their hard work over the weekend. The club next takes on Hazelton and Crestwood
next Sunday in more Penn League action.
