Youth Wrestlers
Begin Penn League Action The Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club started off their regular season Penn League dual meet season on the right track
on Sunday, picking up two victories. The youth Tigers first defeated Scranton 60-31, picking up pins from Nathan Wilmarth,
Brian Rosiak, Tommy Bachman, Jacob Hand, Dakota Quick, and Joey Gavek. Other winners in the match included
David Gavek, Jake Richards, Elliot Hammersley, Dalton Ray, and Tyler Pugh. The Tigers then took on the Summit Wrestling Club and picked up a down-to-the-wire exciting victory, winning 48-42.
The Tiger grapplers collected seven pins along the way. Putting their opponents shoulders to the
mat were Wilmarth, David Gavek, Rosiak, Connor Munley, Richards, Ray, and Pugh. Other winners during the
match were Hammerley and Hand. Several future varsity wrestlers got their
feet wet on the day as well. They included the following: Hunter Gregory, Lochlan Messner,
Daniel Brown, Timmothy Davenport, BJ Works (1 pin), Gavin D’Amato, Ethan Munley (2 pins),
Kieran Bedford, Erik Works, Ryan Tanner, Josh Whitmire, Ziggy Rezykowski, Jacob Davenport, Stanley Slocum, Nick Wilmarth,
Cathleen Bush, Ryan DeRemer, Erin Maloney, Ted Nafus (1 pin), Lucas Stage (2 pins), Christopher
Franko, Will Dudock, Jacob MacMillan, Justin Kozlansky (1 pin), Joe Nally, and Sam Rice. On Saturday, several wrestlers from TYWC participated in area round robin tournaments.
Connor Munley was the lone wrestler to attend the Shamokin tournament in Coal Township. Munley was
able to garner 3 victories on his way to a first place finish. Seven other grapplers took to the mats at
the Pittston round robin competition. David Gavek and Dalton Ray both took home gold medals.
Ray collected 3 pins along the way and Gavek one. Second place finishers included Erik Works, BJ
Works, and Brian Rosiak. Joey Gavek placed third and Justin Kozlansky took fifth to round out the competitors.
