The Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling
Club traveled to Scranton high school to take on Hanover and Wyoming Area in Penn League action. The Little Tigers were too
much to handle as they overpowered their competition winning 85-15 and 60-24 respectfully.
Shane Sherwood, David Gavek, Tommy Traver, Lucas Stage, Justin
Stonier, Jake Richards, Jacob Hand, and Elliott Hammersley chipped in to collect a total 12 varsity pins on the day. Brian
Rosiak won 2 matches by a combined 12 – 0 and Michael Walsh won an Overtime thriller 6 - 4. Nick Kalmanowicz, Dalton
Ray, Bryce Brown, and Dustin Dippre collected forfeits and Justin Kozlansky and Dakota Quick rounded out the line-up. Future
varsity wrestlers were busy on this day matching up with exhibition bouts. Erik & BJ Works, Brian & Kurtis Christ,
Gavin D’Amato, Nathan Wilmarth, Josh Beeman, Pat Casey, Erin Maloney, Connor Munley, Chris Franko, Joey Gavek, Ziggy
Rezykowski, and Alex Smith all competed for the Tigers.
Several TYWC wrestlers
set out on Saturday 1/17/2009 for individual competition. Elliott Hammersley took a trip to Deposit, NY and brought a 2nd
place trophy. Hammersley was 3 -1 on the day, pinning 3 of his opponents. Connor Munley went to Middleburg, Pa to take part
in a round robin tournament. Munley won 2 and lost 1, while finishing second. Tommy Traver and Dakota Quick showed up in Milton,
Pa. Traver kept up his winning ways, pinning 3 straight wrestlers on his way to gold. Quick battled through two tough matches
before being eliminated.
The Junior Tigers next travel to
Pittston high school for the final weekend of dual meets in the Penn League season.
