On Sunday 12/14/2008 the TYWC traveled to Benton for a day of Penn Elementary League action. The little Tigers started off the day with an absolute thriller against The Back Mountain Wrestling Club from Dallas. At the end of all scheduled matches, Tunkhannock and Back mountain were tied 48 – 48. By Penn League regulations, it took until the 3rd tie breaking criteria (most major decisions) to crown Tunkhannock victorious. The Tigers collected pins from Shane Sherwood, David Gavek, Tommy Traver, Jake Richards, Jacob Hand, and Dalton Ray. A technical fall (17 – 2) was awarded to Joey Gavek, Dakota Quick had a last second reversal to win 4 – 3, and Brian Rosiak collect Tunkhannock’s only major decision with a 10- 2 victory. Rounding out the varsity line-up were Josh Beeman, Ryan DeRemer, Justin Stonier, Elliott Hammersley, Justin Kozlansky, Bryce Brown, and Dustin Dippree.

Tunkhannock then focused their attention to the Tigers from Benton, who proved to be too hard to manage. Benton in turn handed the TYWC its 1st loss of the season. Owen Woods, Shane Sherwood, Brian Rosiak, Joey Gavek, and Dakota Quick were awarded pins. Tommy Traver and Justin Stonier won by points.

Tunkhannock’s future varsity got involved in many matches on the day. Wrestling exhibition for the Tigers is as follows: Erik & BJ Works, Brian & Kurtis Christ, Ziggy Rezykowski, Trejon Turner, Erin Maloney, Lucas Satge, Pat Casey, Connor Munley, and Chris Franko. The coaches of Tunkhannock are very pleased how the kids battled through adversity to overcome and opponent in the 1st match and how they handled themselves with good sportsmanship and poise in the face of defeat in the other.

In other action over the weekend; Connor Munley took a trip to Shamokin to wrestle in a 5 man round robin on Saturday 12/13/2008. Connor had a great day with 3 wins and 1 loss while on his way to a 2nd place finish.

The TYWC will next host WVW and Wilkes-Barre YMCA in Penn League action on Sunday 12/21/2008 in the Tunkhannock Middle school starting at 12:00 p.m.
