            On Sunday 12/7/08 the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club (TYWC) traveled to Berwick high school to kick off the Penn Elementary League season. The Little Tigers were to face off against the Dawgs from Berwick and the junior comets from Crestwood. There were no surprise attacks on this Pearl Harbor day as the Tigers came away undefeated in this early 2008-2009 season. The gutsy Tigers beat Berwick 54 – 52 and Crestwood 50 – 45 for their two victories. Duel winners for Tunkhannock came from Shane Sherwood (1 pin), David Gavek (2 pins), Tommy Traver (1 pin), Justin Stonier (1 pin), Jake Richards (2 pins), Joey Gavek (1 pin), and Dalton Ray (2 pins). Brian Rosiak (1 pin), Elliott Hammersley (1 pin), Justin Kozlansky (1 pin), Dakota Quick (1 pin), and Michael Walsh (1 pin) went 1 - 1 on the day. Owen Wood, Trejon Turner, Ryan DeRemer, and Dustin Dippre rounded out the varsity line-up.

            Many of the TYWC’s future varsity was on hand to wrestle exhibition matches while gaining valuable experience, they are as follow: Nathan Wilmarth, William & Eric Works, Brian & Kurtis Christ, Gavin D’Amato, Nick Kalmanowicz, Erin Maloney, Lucas Stage, Connor Munley, Jacob Hand, and Kyle VonOhlen.

            The junior Tigers will next travel to Benton high school on Sunday 12/14/08 to grapple with Back Mountain and Benton in another Penn League affair.

 

            In past wrestling action, Connor Munley was the TYWC’s lone representative at a Rookie’s only tournament at Nazareth high school. Connor wrestled to a 3 – 1 record, earning a silver medal for the day.

            On November 30th Tunkhannock had 8 wrestlers participate in a round robin tournament at Pittston high school. Earning gold for the Tigers were David Gavek, Tommy Traver, Connor Munley, Joey Gavek, and Michael Walsh. Brian Rosiak was awarded a second place medal while Nick Kalmanowicz & Lucas Stage took 4th & 5th respectively.
