The kids from the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club (TYWC) continue to stay busy in the post season. On Saturday 3/1/08 Connor Munley, Dakota Quick, and Justin Kozlansky traveled to Susquehanna high school to partake in a rookie round robin tournament. These three beginners proved to be too much for the competition as they racked up a perfect 10 – 0 record between them. On this same Saturday, Dalton Ray made a trip to Mechanicsburg, Pa for the first MAWA qualifier of the year. Ray won an overtime thriller to advance to the finals before losing a hard fought 6-2 decision to earn silver.

Sunday 3/2/08 sent a group of TYWC’s future stars to Abington Heights high school for Summit’s annual rookie round robin. Chris Franko and Lucas Stage earned silver medals. Connor Munley, Shane Sherwood, Jeremy Peck, Nick Kalmanowicz and Justin Stonier fought hard for their bronze medals. Kenny Ray and Dakota Quick earned some valuable experience while coming in fourth place.

While the Tiger rookies were competing in Abington, the 2008 Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) sectional qualifier was being held at Tunkhannock high school. This was the first step for the serious wrestlers to earn a trip to Erie, Pa for the State championships later this month. The top 4 place finishers from this qualifier will meet the top 4 from the Williamsport qualifier in the Area X championships in Montoursville on Sunday 3/16/08. Brian Rosiak (2nd), Tommy Traver (2nd), Jake Richards (4th), Dalton Ray (1st), Chris Packer (4th), Shane Edmondson (2nd), Ben Siegel (1st), Josh Richards (2nd), Charlie Generotti (1st), and Cory Balko (2nd) all punched their ticket for the next round. Only the top 2 finishers in Montoursville will be invited for the coveted trip to Erie.

Elk Lake held their annual Matman tournament on Saturday 3/8/08. Twelve Tunkhannock grapplers made the trip to engage in local competition. Shane Sherwood, David Gavek, and Dalton Ray outlasted all as they earned 1st place trophies. Joey Gavek lost a tough match in the finals to come away with second. Trystan Edmondson and Tommy Traver won in the concellation finals for third place. Nick Kalmanowicz, Chris Packer and Elliott Hammersley earned forth. Shane Edmondson, Justin Kozlansky, and Mike Barber also participated in the day’s event.

Sunday 3/9/08, Chris Packer and Tommy Traver took a trip south on Rt. 81 to Hazelton for “The Battle of the Belt” tournament. Packer had a tough bracket and was eliminated in the first round. Traver recorded 2 pins on his way into the finals before running out of time in a 5 – 4 heartbreaking loss. A nice silver medal was awarded to Traver for his efforts.
