On Saturday 2/2/08 several wrestlers from the Tunkhannock Youth Wrestling Club (TYWC) traveled to Wyalusing high school
to wrestle in the Brett Keefe memorial tournament. This was a 6 man round robin offering every wrestler a chance to wrestle
every person in their age/weight division. Tunkhannock’s newer wrestlers faired the best as Brian Rosiak, Trystan Edmondson,
and Shane Edmondson were unbeatable on the day. All 3 wrestlers left with a 5-0 record, a champion’s T-shirt, and a
huge trophy. Shane Sherwood and Tommy Traver came in second place. Justin Kozlansky and Ryan Fink each placed third. David
and Joey Gavek, Elliott Hammersley, Dalton Ray, and Chris Packer all fought back to place 4th. Connor Munley gained
some valuable experience by strapping on his shoes and headgear and giving it a try.
Sunday sent these young Tigers to the Martz Center of Wilkes University to close out the 2007-2008 Penn League season
with a champion’s tournament. The TYWC had 24 grapplers enter to see how they would rate against the leagues best. 8
wrestlers made it to the parade of champions and wrestled in the finals. Ben Siegel and Dalton Ray outlasted all as they claimed
gold medals for their effort. Siegel was also honored with the Bill Purcell memorial award as the league’s most outstanding
6th grader. David Gavek, Brian Rosiak, Tommy Traver, Trystan Edmondson, Josh Richards and Jake Richards battled
to second place finishes. Tyler Pugh, Joey Gavek, Elliott Hammersley, and Mike Pugh also medaled with 4th place
honors. Rounding out the line-up for the Tigers were: Jeremy Peck, Nick Kalmanowicz, Lucas Stage, Justin Kozlansky, Ryan Fink,
Justin Stonier, Avery Hemme, Chris Packer, Shane Edmondson, and Zach Appleby. All TYWC coaches are very pleased with the efforts
these boys put forth.
