Youth wrestlers from the TYWC kept busy this past
weekend. On Saturday 1/26/08 Tommy Traver, Elliott Hammersley, and Ryan Fink traveled to Mahanoy City to wrestle in the Gino
Cappone memorial round robin tournament. Traver had a solid performance on his way to a 2nd place finish. Hammersley
and Fink each walked away with bronze medals.
Ben Siegel and Dalton Ray took a trip to Hershey
and wrestled in Brute’s NE Nationals. Siegel locked horns with some of the countries finest before being eliminated.
Ray wrestled through 4 rounds on his way to a 6th place finish.
On Sunday 1/27/08 the TYWC concluded The Penn
League duel meet season with 2 impressive victories. Earning wins over Benton (60-31) and Back Mountain (62-33) put the Tigers
at a solid 9-4 record. Shane Sherwood, David Gavek (1 pin), Brian Rosiak, Tommy Traver (2 pins), Jake Richards (2 pins), Paul
Webber (2 pins), Chris Packer, and Ben Siegel were double winners on the day. Also fighting hard for the Tigers gaining a
hard fought victory was: Trystan Edmondson (tech fall), Joey Gavek (pin), Elliott Hammersley (pin), Dakota Quick (pin), Tyler
Pugh, Dalton Ray, Mike Pugh (pin), and Noah Smith. Rounding out the line-up for Tunkhannock: Lucas Stage, Justin Kozlansky,
Avery Hemme, and Shane Edmondson.
As with all Penn League events, it is important
to have all team members wrestle for the experience of real matches. Wrestling exhibition for TYWC were: Charlie Brown, Jeremy
Peck (2 pins), Erik Works, Nick Kalmanowicz (pin), Gary Webber (2 pins), Brandon Owens, Avery Newhart, Justin Stonier
(2 pins), Connor Munley (1 pin), Logan Hegedty (pin), Kenny Ray, Alex Smith, Zach Appleby, Dave Packer, Ryan Fink (pin), and
Duane Peck.
Next up for the little Tigers will be The Penn
League Champions Tournament. This event will be next Sunday, January 27, 2008 at The Martz Center of Wilkes University.
