The youth wrestlers from Tunkhannock started out the week on a very high note. The TYWC was invited to wrestle Wednesday
night in the high school gymnasium prior to a Varsity meet between Tunkhannock & GAR. The large hometown crowd had the
little guys fired up as they wrestled to a 51 – 35 victory over Summit in Penn League action. Shane Sherwood, David
Gavek, and Gary Webber got things going with 3 pins. Trystan Edmondson earned
a hard fought 10 – 6 win. Joey Gavek, Shane Edmondson, Mike Pugh, and Ben Siegel collected 4 more pins and Ben Swilley
was awarded a forfeit. Tommy Traver, Jake Richards, Elliott Hammersley, Dakota Quick, Paul Webber, Avery Hemme, Chris Packer,
and Dalton Ray rounded out the line-up.
Saturday 1/12/08 had the junior Tigers traveling to Abington Heights high school for the Joe Stanco memorial youth
wrestling tournament. Jeremy Peck and Ben Siegel earned second place trophies. Brian Rosiak and Chris Packer placed fourth
in the eight man brackets. Tommy Traver, Reed Atkins, Lucas Stage, Duane Peck, Ryan Fink, Dakota Quick, Trystan and Shane
Edmondson, Jake and Josh Richards, and Nick Kalmanowicz also participated for the Tigers.
On Sunday the TYWC closed out the week by traveling to Crestwood high school to take on Crestwood and Berwick in head
to head competition. The young Tigers lost the first match of the day to a tough Berwick team, 61 -31. Tunkhannock then faced
Crestwood and responded with a 60 – 29 victory. Winning both their bouts was: Shane Sherwood, David Gavek, Gary Webber,
Jake Richards, and Ben Siegel. Tommy Traver, Joey Gavek, Elliott Hammersley, Chris Packer, Shane Edmondson, Mike Pugh, and
Justin Kozlansky (wrestling in his 1st varsity bouts) all went 1 – 1 on the day. Trystan Edmondson, Dakota
Quick, and Dave Packer rounded out Tunkhannock’s line-up. Josh Richards wrestled an exhibition match winning by pin.
Several of the young Tiger’s future varsity wrestlers grappled in exhibition action. Jeremy Peck 1-1, Erik Works
1-1, Nick Kalmanowicz 3-1 with 2 pins, Brandon Owens 0-2, Brian Rosiak 3-0 with 2 pins, Avery Newhart 1-2 with 1 pin, Lucas
Stage 3-0 with 2 pins, Connor Munley 2-1 with 1 pin, Reed Atkins 0-1, Logan Hegedty 0-1, Tyler Pugh 0-2, Kenny Ray 0-2, Alex
Smith 0-2, Ryan Fink 1-1 with 1 pin, Duane Peck 1-1 with 1 pin, and Noah Smith 1-1 with 1 pin.
Tunkhannock next travels to Summit for more Penn League action. The Tigers will square off against Wilkes-Barre YMCA
and Hanover at 12 p.m on Sunday 1/20/08.
